The Latest strategy for international education by Canada calls for more diversity, global ties, and innovation. Since the start of 2019, more than 5.7 million international students have contributed billions in the economy.

$148 million has been dedicated to budget 2019 by Canada to expand its pool of international students by adding more source countries.  The highest number of students in Canada comes from China and India and they make up 50% of the total international student pool.

Visa Categories for Studying in Canada

To secure a Canadian student visa for education you must acquire a Canadian study permit. While on your study visa you can work off-campus, as an intern, secure PR or you may prolong your stay after graduation to find work in Canada. For securing a Canadian student visa you must follow the following steps:

  • Obtain a valid enrollment certificate from higher education institute in Canada
  • Undertake English proficiency test i.e. IELTS or CAE
  • Obtain study permit application from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website or from the Canadian embassy or consulate.
  • Application package on the CIC website after online screening initially will provide you a personal checklist. This will contain instructions for the next step, a list of documents required, estimated tuitions fees amount, etc.
  • After this, once you have compiled your checklist you can create an account on MyCIC and upload all the documents required in the checklist.
  • After uploading docs and paying your tuition fees you can submit your application to CIC. In some cases, you might have to undertake an interview as well.
  • Biometric verification, medical exam, police clearance certificate along with a valid passport is required for applying to Canada.  
  • Students may also apply through student direct stream (SDS) which is the new option offered to Pakistani students recently for fast visa processing.
  • Proof of funds i.e. financial statement is also required when applying to Canada. 10,000 Canadian dollars for every year of your stay on top of your tuition fees are required as proof of your fund.
  • After approval, you will receive electronic travel authorization. Canada border service agency (CBSA), upon verifying your letter of acceptance, financial proofs and passport will issue a study permit to you in Canada.
